The most wonderful illustrations; reprint required!

If I could bring one book back from the land of "Out of print" this would be it. This was a book I coveted as a child, and was only ever able to read on loan from a library. I was able to purchase a good-condition used copy from Amazon and it has become a treasured book for my children.

The illustrations are a like a lens into a little piece of England, and they are beautiful, clear, and full of hidden detail, so much so I wish I could enlarge some of them. Against these illustrations is matched a beautifully structured story that counterposes place and season together into a simple tale with a satisfying rhythm and conclusion.

To give an idea of the age ranges this is suitable for, my 3 year old loves the illustrations and finds things to enjoy in them, my 5 year old comprehends the story and pores over the details, and I, as an adult, have found myself always willing to accede to the requests to read and re-read it, as it is engaging for adults over an extended period as well, and I find myself studying the hidden puzzles and details too.

I can only endorse the other preceding 5-star reviews. If you have a copy -- keep it. If you can obtain a copy, you won't be disappointed.

A Delightful Treasure for anyone with a Child’s Heart

I absolutely love this book, so much so that I bought an extra copy when mine started to get tattered and another to give to a friend. I especially love the many small details in the pictures. The story is the classical story of the struggle between Summer and Winter that climaxes in the Winter Solstice as the day starts to grow longer and life returns in the Spring.

This book has been treasured since we first read it to our small children years ago. The detailed pictures of the land of Trumpets and Grumpets are amazing and fascinating to young and old. Now available only in a soft cover reprint, we bought it for a young friend, and he & his family love it too. Highly recommended.

Sadly disappointer

I bought this book eagerly as it was well advertised as a sensational and new outlook on terrariums. However, I was sadly disappointed. The writing style - while easy to read - kept repeating the same things several times. A significant chunk of the introduction to terrariums could been hacked to make the prose less repetitive. Instead, I would have appreciated more details on the types of plants that can be used in terrariums. The pictures in this book are numerous but the imagination behind the terrariums is lacking. A considerable number of the photos simply depict potted plants contained in glass. I have done a fair amount of research on terrariums and the pictures on the web are far more creative and inspiring. In short, I recommend that anyone looking for information on on terrariums simply stick to the internet. Several sites carry good information on making terrariums and the 'Terrarium' flickr group will provide more inspiring photos than this book.

I must add my voice to those who found the content in this book lacking: what could have easily been expressed in one sentence was painfully stretched out across 2 or 3 pages of text. It reads as if a teacher were explaining an utterly simple concept to a very slow student - which is frustrating if you're anybody except the very slow student.
I usually consider the internet to be a good starting point to get a few ideas about a subject and that when you want to go into any depth books are typically more concise, contain more information, and are more accurate. In this case I found the opposite to be true. The book's cover is enticing but there's really very little behind it except filler and fluff.

Useful and beautiful

I checked this new book out from my library to see if I wanted to buy it later on down the road, and I do! The book is beautifully photographed, and it contains very useful information. When I am ready to to start making my terrariums, I will purchase the book. I particularly like the section on appropriate plants-this way I won't have to go to the nursery and wander around like a dumb-dumb! Terrariums are the new hot thing in crafting...so I plan to get started soon.

since the late 40's in this country they have slowly been rewriting history, dumbing down education, "it isn't free public education, it's costly state indoctrination" Des Griffin is a diligent and gifted researcher, this book, 'Fourth Reich of the Rich' is an expose of true world history, and will help you understand why the world is in the bad shape that it is today.

up-to-date picture of the scene as our

civilization slips further away from a

Constitutional Republic and more into

a 'Demo(n)ocracy', one of the worst

froms of Gov't on planet earth; a 'de-

mocracy' is Establishment 'Mob Rule',

by what Ross Perot and Pat Buchanan,

when they both originally had their

heads screwed on right, used to call

'Push-Poll-Politics'. Lie to the people,

then create a counter lie, and offer

"the only possible solution", naturally

all the while curtailing more and more

liberties and rights from Joe Q. Citizen.

SHOCKINGLY SMART, HEARTFELT, AND INSPIRING READ

I didn't expect to like this book… at all. I’m a middle-aged man -- not exactly Taylor Swift’s demographic. And – full disclosure – I’m in a related industry and was sent the book for free in return for an honest review. However, I do think Taylor Swift is impressively talented and enjoy a lot of her music. So I figured, Why not? and took it with me on a plane trip.

I was truly stunned at how much I enjoyed the read. It made a part of my trip breeze along effortlessly and amusingly. Not only is the writing clever, snappy, and engaging, Taylor’s story as it’s told here is wholly compelling, with surprising twists and ups-and-downs. Moreover, she may have been born with certain innate gifts, as well as born into a family that afforded her certain advantages. But that and $2.10 will buy you a Starbucks Grande coffee. This young lady is a study in determination and perseverance which readers, young and old, and not merely her fans, would find fascinating. I have much more respect for her now, having read this, and I had a fun time doing so. I recommend this book unabashedly, certainly to Taylor lovers, but also to parents who aren’t sure what message Taylor sends to their kids, as well as stogy oldsters who just want a great, inspiring jolt of youthful exuberance and human can-do-itness.

TOLD WITH LOTS OF HEART AND EMOTION

I bought this for my teenage daughters who are big Taylor Swift fans. I decided to have a look and read it first and I was pleasantly surprised. The writing was terrific and Parker told the story of Taylor Swift's journey from birth to super stardom very cinematically and with a ton of heart. Five stars.

Taylor Swift's compelling story of talent and determination told in a very readable style

I'm certainly not in her targeted demographic, but I've been entertained by her over the past few years. Of course I knew nothing about her background really. This breezy book is extremely well written and thorough, without being one of those sordid tell alls. It is a well written, with humor, of Swift's determination and confidence (a lesson to us all!) to make the most of her gifts. And she most certainly has. So it should serve as an inspiration to particular females who "got talent" - not just to be a pop star, but to succeed in whatever is one's chosen profession. I came away have more respect and appreciation for this lovely singer. High recommend.
