Very Misleading

I recently came to look into this book after one of the authors started spamming a Pagan forum with advertising this book. She came onto the site,advertised, and never answered a single question that was asked of her. All of her responses were basically,"Well if you just buy my book..." which was very shady.

If you're serious about learning neo-Wicca and such, please look elsewhere. Thea Sabin or Amber K. are good ones to start with.

Wiccapedia does not have accurate information, and is just a bunch of glitter and nonsense. Their use of "white witch" and "angelic Wicca" are prime examples of inaccuracies. I can't believe I'm saying this, but this is worse than the garbage Silver Ravenwolf writes. Shawn and Leanna obviously have no idea what Wicca actually is and they have no right to publish material about it.

If you want to be taken seriously in the Pagan community, skip over this. You won't learn anything valid. The authors have made it clear that they think the witchcraft community is stupid enough to buy into this.

You do NOT want to be labeled a "fluffy bunny" in the pagan community.Save yourself from being harassed and learn from more credible sources. The criticism is harsh, maybe, but if you're dedicated to learning it will only help you grow as a person in your spirituality. You'll get respect and people will actually listen to what you have to say if you are able to back up your claims. This book will not give you the tools to gain respect, or to help you to grow in any form of religious witchcraft. It will only fill your head with lies, all so the authors can steal your money. Don't be taken advantage of!

Good book for beginners

This is the first book I ever read about wicca and it definitely got me going to figure out more. For people that already know about wicca, I'm not sure this book is really for you. However, I found it useful as I'm just getting started. It touches briefly on a lot of different topics like ouija, spells, crystals, herbs, animals, dreams and so on; as a result I have an idea for other things that I want to find out more about. I recommend this book, its easy to read and keeps you interested and it looks nice too.

I'm very happy to have bought this book

I'm very happy to have bought this book! Although I'm not brand new to Wicca, I found a lot of value in reading this information in an organized, concise manner. Many of our favorite Wiccan authors can be kind of verbose and in my experience, don't put a lot of effort into structuring the information in a clear manner. I would recommend this book as THE first book to anyone interested in learning more about Wicca. I'd also recommend it to anyone looking to fill in any gaps or holes in their understanding of practice. It might not be for someone who's actively practiced for a long number or years, but I think there is valuable information in here, even for those who aren't brand new. The pages are nice and thick and the cover is beautifully. It's the most well-made Wicca book I've got and will hold up to being used as a reference. Would love to see more books from this author....perhaps expanding on what is included here.

Another Winner from Betty Neels

Nurse Beth Partridge first meets Professor Alexander van Zeust when she literally runs into him while riding her bicycle. After that, it seems like she keeps bumping into him since he is doing some surgery and consulting at the hospital she works at. Beth enjoys their encounters and she has feelings for him that she can't explain. When Alexander offers Beth the chance to go nurse his sister, Martina, who just had her appendix removed and take care of Martina's four young children, Beth jumps at the chance. She's been feeling a bit restless in her job and is tired of living in a cramped apartment with her brother William. She grew up in the country and misses it. Beth realizes that she may see Alex while taking care of Martina and her children and looks forward to their encounters, although she's not sure why. As for Alex, he's old enough to know what he wants and patient enough to wait for Beth to realize what her true feelings are.

"A Star Looks Down" is another delightful romance from Betty Neels. She used one of her basic plot lines - rich, handsome Dutch doctor falls in love with plain, but feisty, English nurse - and did what she did best with that plot line, create an enjoyable, sweet romance. Beth is a nice heroine - a bit put upon by older step brother Philip who basically took her beloved house in the country away from her and by younger brother William who has a habit of borrowing money from her - but very loving and caring. She's so used to being told that she is plain that she doesn't realize how wonderful her hair and eyes are, which makes her an endearing heroine. Professor Alexander Van Zeust is the kind of hero that only exists in Betty Neels novels - a very talented doctor, very rich, owner of several large and beautifully furnished homes in several countries, in love with Beth and willing to take his time until she realizes she is in love with him. The supporting characters are well written. William is a bit selfish, but harmless unlike Phillip who is a true villain; Alexander's sister Martina is a bit spoiled, but a loving mother; and the children are all sweet and adorable, with Dirk, the oldest, the real standout, as he seems to be a real child, with real feelings and faults. The romance between Beth and Alexander is nicely done, but very old-fashioned. Romance readers who want more than chaste kisses between the hero and heroine, won't find it in a Betty Neels book.

"A Star Looks Down" is another winner from Betty Neels.

A HELPING HAND AND A KIND HEART - BETH HAD BOTH, BUT WOULD THEY WIN HER LOVE? Professor Alexander van Zeust's sister was ill, and her four young children needed caring for. He asked Beth Partridge - kind, capable, sensible Beth - to take charge of them for a week. She made a splendid job of it, so one week extended to two, and then longer... The professor was happy, the children loved Beth, and their mother knew they were in good hands. Everyone was happy - except Beth. She had fallen in love with her remote employer, but he wasn't likely to be interested in her. She wanted to return to her hospital job, away from all the emotional turmoil, but how when she was needed by the children?

In this "rich good-looking Dutch/British Doctor & plain British Nurse story" Recovery Room Staff Nurse Beth Partridge literally runs into Professor Alexander van Zeust early one morning while trying to report to work on time. They continually meet or are thrown together by chance. An unsuspecting and humble Beth has no idea that "chance" is assisted not by "fate" but by a very patient and determined Alexander. The subtle manner in which he "provides opportunities" to be around her while waiting for her to fall in love with him provides a pleasant, sweet story. To add drama to this story Beth contributes an evil older step-brother and a somewhat selfish younger brother; while Alexander adds a somewhat spoiled sister with a misbehaving, naughty nephew. This is a typical feel-good Betty Neels story that provides a pleasant afternoon read with a few smiles.

As usual this lady delivered another heart warming romance. People love her or hate her, it seems, but her experience and morals shine through each story. They are old fashioned stories and depict a time long gone but are still relevant and enjoyable for this day and age. I have read all her books and will continue to re-read them.l

The flora is illustrated by 250 line drawing and ten photographs. In addition, there is a map of the Santa Cruz Mountains area and a stratigraphic profile of the rock formations. The stratigraphic profile and a section on geology have been contributed by Dr. Earl E. Brabb of the United States Geological Survey.

Distributional notes, keys to families, genera, and species, pertinent synonymy, a glossary of technical terms, an index of place names, and common0name and scientific-name indexes form the body of the text. The Introduction contains a description of the geography of the Santa Cruz Mountains and adjacent lowlands, seconds on the geology and climate, a brief discussion and analysis of the vegetation and floristic affinities of the area, and a history of past botanical collecting. A selected list of references has been appended to allow the interested individual to pursue his studies further.

An Indispensible Work for the Committed Landowner

I am a property owner in the Santa Cruz Mountains. This flora has been indispensable to me as a guide by which to restore my land. Its keys are, for the most part, comprehensible and useful to the amateur. Its detailed references to where the plants were found are a blessing in a region with enormous climate and soil variations. It is purely a scientific work by a man who loved the land.
The Santa Cruz Mountains have an incredibly complex flora. They are located at the confluence of three major botanical regions: North Coast, Central Coast, and Inland. As a consequence, a single parcel can have a bewildering array of plants. On my fourteen acres alone, I have distinguished over 240 species, of which 60 are exotics. Without a good flora, I would be lost, killing things that are native and letting exotics pass simply because the task of weeding is so physically and intellectually overwhelming.
The rewards of this kind of work can be equally overwhelming, and I owe a personal debt to botanists such as Thomas. I am astonished that this was but a graduate dissertation. I can only say that I wish his ability, integrity, and energy was more common.
Modern flora, although blessed with the benefit of DNA analysis, can be needlessly complicated with innumerable "subspecies" that, from my observations, may only be hybrids or simply variants based upon distinctions important only to the professional career of the botanist. Although Thomas' book may be in that respect somewhat dated, it is also a blessing. I am often faced with making distinctions on attributes belonging to separate "species" that are shared by individuals on the same parcel! Jepson, while equally indispensable and supposedly definitive, can, in that respect, be maddening. "Plants of the San Francisco Bay Region," by Beldeman and Kolzoff and "Coastal County Plants from Santa Cruz to Mendocino," by George Pikkaranien, although less comprehensive than Jepson, are, in some respects, more useful, if only because of the photographs and references to attrributes of typical habitat.
I use Thomas, Pikkaranien, and Beldeman/Kolzoff to get close with my identification, confirm it with the CalFlora web site (where the photographs are usually poor), and complete the identification process using Jepson, both the text and the online version, which sometimes don't agree. My only criticism of Thomas is that I wish there were more of those excellent drawings.

A MUST READ FOR THE ILL

I have just finished this book and think it is one of the best books on holistic
healing that I have read, and I have read many. It is for the layman....IE not
a medical book but I believe MY doctors would learn alot by reading it. I have
been searching for a way to relieve arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis and have
had success .... this book explains why some of my successes have occured.
I followed several of its tenants to a variable degree before I read it. It
is a valuable resource if you follow the teaching of Dr. Robert Cassar that are
excellent and available on Youtube. I would suggest this book to any person
on the planet who is now or may ever be sick...guess this is all inclusive.
If you have gout please read page 94 and 95 first as it is the only place,
including my DR - a specialist, that simply explains why Gout happens.
"Your body's Many Cries for Water" by Dr. Batmanghelidj is also an excellent source.

More than a pinch of salt

The book brought together the concepts and reasoning behind Dr. Hendel's products. I use her Magnesium Oil spray for general aches and pains from daily chores and exercising. Since learning about the Himalayan salt and its benefits beyond cooking, I feel better and so do others with whom I have shared this information.

Interesting approach to dehydration

Not sure yet if it is the panacea it claims to be. It was of interest to me because I tend towards dehydration. I take a teaspoon of the salty water as recommended first thing every morning. I drink at least 60 oz of water daily. Perhaps it takes awhile to turn this condition around and I am seeing some progress.

excellent review of the scientific work motivation literatur

Pinder provides an excellent overview of major and minor psychological theories on work motivation. Popular theories, such as Maslow's need hierarchy, are covered as well as minor theories on which little research has been conducted yet. The book is definitely useful for Psychology and Organizational Behavior students, but it is pretty in depth and not application oriented enough to be all that valuable for managers and HR practicioners.

Even Wild Women Get the Blues...

You MUST read this book! Paul Doyle has written a fantastic book filled with adventure, humor and wit. He is very funny as he pokes fun at the dogma of political, spiritual and environmental correctness while he effectively underlines the values that dogma intended to support. He clearly loves the Pacific Northwest rainforest he describes in fine detail. No matter if you have been there or not you will see it in it's glory and feel the love and respect he has for the natural world. I loved Nioka. I wanted to be Nioka. And I must admit, I have always hoped that Bigfoot really exists and continues to elude capture.

Best book ever

Go out and buy it from Amazon.com. It's usually less than a dollar. It's about a woman who decides to take a break from modern society and relationships in order to clear her head and simplify her life. She takes off and "goes native" in the forest. The more time she spends there, the less need she has for human contact, materials, or even sustenance. There are other huge eco-issues and feminism statements repeated. Nioka meets Bigfoot :) and DB Cooper (see criminal airplane hijacker from 1971). Through the first half of the book, we see the woman as she is in the forest. Periodically, we digress a little in order to learn bits and pieces about her past, such as the motivations that eventually brought her to this point in life. In the second half, the character seems to grow into the forest, and changes into something beyond a typical human form. She is able to transform herself into light at will and can project herself into different places. Two thought provoking statements are made in the book. 1."Everything that ends with Z, begins with A again". 2. "Don't feed the crocodiles".

I wish there were more books out there by Paul Doyle. But this one's a fluke. It kinda looks like Doyle was simply an average business owner who decided to write a book, then created his own publishing company when he couldn't find any publishers to take on the book. I can't find any more information than a transcript of an interview with him dated from the early 90's.

I gotta give Doyle credit. This book is frickin brilliant! I think any publishing company had to have been crazy to not take this one on. It is REALLY good! More so, I gotta give him kudos for DIY-ing it and getting the book out there himself.

Yep, this one's going on the shelf next to "Nisa".

Very much like a Tom Robbins novel

Very much like a Tom Robbins novel. I love the writing style of Tom Robbins this novel is very much like that. I also had to wonder if I know him because Nioka and I had a somewhat parallel life ;-). Old hippies , Earth Mother, living in the woods of the great NW. No Nukes, protests and zen.
I think I will be waiting for the sequel and she really doesn't meet a Squatch in this one. Get the sequel out Paul! There is no Squatch porn in this sweet little story about a girl /woman who couldn't take the crazy human society. You're singing my song Paul!

Good Middle School Spanish Book

I am using this to teach my 7th grade granddaughter in homeschool. I ordered this and the workbook "a la carte" so to say. If you order the whole package from Glencoe, you can spend a mint. This works well. I do know Spanish so really don't need the extra stuff. It goes at a slow enough pace for this age group, but still includes somewhat realistic readings and conversations which makes the student feel like he is doing something "real."

Healing!

This is my first T.D. Jakes book and I am delighted! Highly recommended for anyone who is feeling depressed, anxious, or dealing with issues of your mind body and spirit. God does long for us to be whole and well...but the first step is ours!

heal

God wants to heal us completely in our body, soul and spirit. We have to open ourselves to His Holy Spirit and let Him work. Fear wants to stop the work of God. We need to trust God. People will come and go in our lives, but God will always be there. Trust Him to do the work He wants to do. We can survive the loss of people, but we can't survive without God. God's healing process makes us free to taste life again, free to trust again and free to live without the restrictive force of threatening fear.
