Lovable pig + wise spider = enduring classic

"Charlotte's Web," by E.B. White, belongs to a special class of literature: a children's book which has much to offer to older teen and adult readers. White's wonderful story is superbly complemented by the charming illustrations of Garth Williams.
As the story opens, eight year old farm girl Fern Arable stops her father from killing a piglet who has been labeled the runt of the litter. The little pig, whom Fern names Wilbur, becomes one of the central figures in the story. Eventually he will be befriended by Charlotte, the wise and loving spider mentioned in the book's title.
White creates a sort of modern animal fable in which his barnyard characters can speak both with each other and with Fern. White's barn is populated with some truly marvelous characters. Special mention should be made of Templeton the rat. Gluttonous, sneaky, often nasty, but curiously sympathetic, Templeton is one of the great anti-heroes in modern literature.
Part of this novel's brilliance is the fact that the author makes a heroine out of a spider: a creature that many people probably regard with fear. Unlike a cute piglet or other barnyard creatures, a spider is a creature vastly different from humans. White's Charlotte is a truly remarkable character. White's witty, compassionate prose style is an ideal vehicle for telling the story of Charlotte and her friends.
"Charlotte's Web" is a masterful blend of whimsy, humor, gentle satire, and life-and-death drama. But above all, it is a powerful story of friendship. Deeply moving and superbly written, this is a book which, I believe, will endure as a treasured classic.

My wife and I loved Charlotte's Web as children so now that our daughter is at an age where she will sit and listen to a long story we decided to start with this book.

Our daughter loved every chapter of the book, it held her attention quiet well reading just a few chapters a night. She never wanted us to stop. After reading the book we followed it up by watching both movies for a family night.

If you enjoy reading and your kids are ready to listen I would highly highly recommend Charlotte's Web as a great family time book.

A Classic Worth Revisiting

I bought this classic to read to my children before seeing the play. There are some important themes presented here such as: friendship, fear, risk, challenging the status quo, and life and death. It is was fun to revisit this classic story through their eyes, but prepare yourself for the aspects you likely forgot about if you're anything like me. It is a little heavy toward the end but it all ends up roses! My seven year old is now reading it on her own and loves it!

Good problems here

Good problems here, and good strategy, but this book is pretty thin -- you can work through it fairly quickly. I just got it because I needed to retake the test and I wanted some more practice problems. Get the bigger book first.

Sufficient for DI part, QC more than enough

QC is covered in six units out of seven units. DI is covered only in the 7th unit of the book. In the beginning, i thought the book was a waste of time as i was concerned only on DI part. The book surprised me however. The QC part was written in a very lucid way. I could simply turn on the pages to finish all the QC part. Though i was not interested in QC part, i have to say that QC part helped me a lot. The DI part covered in 7th unit was more than enough for me. It had few worked out problems and simply three problems to solve. But those few examples and three problems details almost everything one need to crack the DI questions in the GRE. In short, i will like to say that the book was worth buying in my case.

I enjoyed every second of it

I received a copy of this novel from the author/publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. And I need to say; thank you for that!

I took the book with me on my vacation and wasn’t sure will I read it but when I started I didn’t know how to stop. I even felt guilty because I would catch myself thinking what will happen next.

The book was interesting and well written. I enjoyed every second of it. I loved where the plot goes and even though in the end it seemed that happened too much of it, it was interesting to watch how characters react on every scene.

I loved Julia’s character. Don’t know why exactly but I think it has something with the fact that she’s Leo just like me so I understand most of her actions. She is strong female character and well characterized.

Even though I didn't like Chris and Pat in the beginning of the book they grow to my heart eventually :)

This book is not so much about sex like other erotica books and I liked that. It’s more about developing feelings and how to react on certain things in life and that was very interesting to read for me.

Izabela did a great job and I look forward to seeing something new from her. I can only hope she’ll contact me for next review ;)

In the end, I highly recommend this book to everyone.

You need to read this book

I've never given five stars before but I loved this book. It has everything I want in a good read. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. I loved the sexy tension between Julia and Chris, and that they didn't go hammer and tongs the first time they met. When the sex did happened it was HOT. There were enough twists and turns to keep me guessing but not enough to make me re-read bits to see who was whom. I loved that this book was edited (which seems to be a common failing with e-books) well. Thank you. I will certainly look for other books by this author.

What will she write next?

I had mixed emotions about this book, let me start with the stepdad.
Kevin: He is overbearing, controlling. I didn't like him, but at the end... Like the last 10 pages he was okay.
Next up is the mom: She has her issues, but don't we all. In the end she just wanted what was best for her daughter, so I guess I can forgive her for being spoilt and blind to what was going on around her.
Jason: I loved him. He was there for Julia. I wanted them to get together, but when you read the book you will understand why that should not happen.
The friend Jessica: There was times when I wanted Julia to drop her as a friend and find someone better, but then there was times when she was okay. I guess some friends are like that.
Dexter: I wanted so bad for him and Julia to get it on!! Haha and of course be together. He was so sweet and he had his domineering moments, which to me it seemed that's one thing Julia liked; even though she fought for her freedom and independence.
That brings me to Julia: Sometimes I wanted to slap her and other times I cheered her on. She went through so much in her life, and it just kept on coming. She wanted so badly to be free. At least in the end she did get what she wanted.
Pat: When we are first introduced to him, I totally hated his guts, however; they say there is always a second impression and he made a good one.
Chris: Sexy, domineering, controlling, but he has his good sides and Julia seems to bring it out in him.
So I really didn't want them together, but then I did want them together. It was a love hate relationship.
So over all I give this book a 5 , because even though I got frustrated and ticked off; the book was beautifully written. It had romance, danger and sexy guys. The author brought you into Julia's world. If a book keeps your attention and you want to know what's going to happen next... Then it's a book worth reading. 5''

About the Author
Gail I. Smith is an associate professor and director of the Health Information Management Program at the University of Cincinnati. She has been a Health Information Management professional and educator for more than three decades, has served as a coding consultant for several years, and has written or co-authored several successful coding textbooks. Ms. Bowie is an active member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and previously served as a member of the organization's Board of Directors. She received her bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University and her master's degree in education from The College of Mt. St. Joseph.

About the Author
Joseph Campana lived in Mumbai from 2007 to 2011. He taught feature writing and literary journalism at the Xavier Institute of Communications and literature at the American School of Bombay. His writing has appeared in the Indian Express and Time Out Mumbai. He currently lives in Missoula, Montana, with his wife, Jillian, and daughter, Estelle.

Fascinating Read About a Little Known Piece of India

Dharavi is an area within the Indian city of Mumbai (formerly Bombay). Some people call it a slum and others a place filled with opportunity. Editor Joseph Campana has assembled a group of Indian and foreign writers who work to describe this place. Campana opens with an introduction that pulled me into his book. His descriptions and capsule summaries of Dharavi prepared me for what followed. He divided the book into four parts: Arrival, Work and Money, The Daily Grind and Timepass, and Fixing Dharavi. Each part begins with a short description by Campana – these helped to give the work cohesion and flow.

While the boundaries of the four parts are not firm, they gave me a feel for Dharavi that I otherwise would have missed. The first section, Arrival, both brings the reader into Dharavi and begins to paint a picture of some of the half million plus who have come to live and work in this two square kilometers of former marshland.

The second part, Work and Money, tells us about some of the economy of the area – both a bit of the dark side and of the entrepreneurial spirit that thrives despite a shortage of such basics as water and electricity. We are reminded that we could well be wearing something such as a belt buckle cast and polished in Dharavi.

The third part, The Daily Grind and Timepass, added a new word to my vocabulary: “timepass”. It shows the reader another facet of this rough diamond and leads us to the fourth part. The fourth section, Fixing Dharavi, is a final gem. What makes it so interesting is how Campana and his stable of writers tell us about the possible futures of the land. The property where Dharavi stands has gone from being worthless to some of the most valuable real estate in Mumbai. Developers salivate over the possibilities and we learn of what may come – both good and bad.

In sum, I can highly recommend this book. Armchair travelers will love it for the picture it paints of an exotic place. Students of other places and cultures will likely treasure this book for the comprehensive portrait of a complex place in a country that is both a cradle of humanity and a hope for the world’s future. It is exactly the kind of book that can be just the right assigned reading in an anthropology, sociology or psychology course. Just plain readers like me will enjoy it for the fascinating story it weaves. Usually I try to ration my books as I live at the end of a costly supply chain but, I couldn’t do so in this instance – it was just too entertaining and interesting a read to put down!

I bought this book through Amazon. I hope they get more copies as I'd wanted to give one as a gift.
