This book does an excellent job introducing developers to the world of ABAP

Learning how to develop applications using ABAP technology can be quite a challenge. Unlike other mainstream languages out there (e.g. Java, Python, etc.), learning ABAP is not as simple as downloading an SDK, pick up a book, and start coding through examples in a weekend. Indeed, before you ever start coding in ABAP, you must have at least a basic understanding of the AS ABAP platform, the proprietary development tools SAP uses, and so forth.

Though there are many books out there written about ABAP, I’ve yet to encounter a starting guide as cohesive as Getting Started with ABAP. This book does an excellent job introducing developers to the world of ABAP, blending basic ABAP language concepts with practical use cases, best practices, and perhaps most importantly, context. By context, I’m referring to those elements of ABAP which have changed over the years but still show up in legacy code (and sadly new code written using out-of-date practices). For new developers, it’s vital to have this background to be able to learn ABAP the right way and not pick up bad habits.

Like many consulting firms out there looking to grow their team, I’m always on the lookout for materials to help our developers quickly come up to speed in ABAP. This is especially true now as more and more developers flood into the SAP development landscape to support newer technologies such as SAPUI5/Fiori, HCP, and HANA. In our case, we’re usually dealing with seasoned developers who are just new to ABAP. For us, this guide is a perfect launching point for getting new developers plugged in. It’s concise, informative, accessible, and reads well (not like some of those regurgitated manuals you see out there). So, if you’re looking to get started in ABAP, I strongly recommend you give this book a try.

Best way to start with ABAP

I started in the ABAP world around 16 years ago...and my first thought after seeing an R/3 screen was "I want to work for that company"...of course...my second thought was "This ABAP looks so weird"...anyway...after 11 years I managed to work for ABAP and funnily enough...for the almost 5 years that I have working with them...I have barely touched ABAP...

ABAP is a language that I truly love and admire...it's just awesome...

When I got my myself the chance of reading this book I was completely trilled...just an opportunity to go back to my roots and learn ABAP for the second time...

This book is just awesome...I wish it was available by the time I was learning ABAP...it explains everything in a very simple and concise way...focusing on the important stuff and as a bonus...you get to build a really nice project that involves most of the things that would use if working for a client...

Obviously...being an ABAP veteran myself...I knew most the stuff...but I gladly discovered some new features that are really cool...and now I'm glad that I know them and could use if I have the change to write new ABAP applications...

If you have never heard of ABAP but are curious...or if you're just starting on this fascinating book...you should really...and I mean really...read this book...

Eye-Opening

I never understood before. My mother's whole family is a nest of narcissists. It was tough growing up. I'm nothing like them, I take after my father's side of the family. It was so bizarre. It was like they (figuratively) liked to "bathe in people's blood". I just could not, for the life of me, figure out why someone would want to. I mean, come on already. How can they possibly WANT to hurt someone? To slice and dice and just cut somebody to pieces. I simply could not ignore the evidence of my own eyes, but it all seemed so unreal. I was just a child, I was innocent and helpless. They were so vicious, they spat venom, they bit and snarled and ripped and ground and stomped and kicked and screamed and slashed and growled and spat and glared and howled and scratched and punched and slapped and flung and smacked and would not stop and blamed everyone else and loved every minute, every second of it. Their eyes would shine, their cheeks and foreheads were so, so pink, they would, I don't even know what you would call it, they would giggle-snarl. (It was decidedly an unpleasant thing to hear.) They... drooled. You knew when they were going to start in, because they would start drooling. Just a little bit, in the corner. Drool. I started understanding a little bit when that song came out when I was a teenager, "Anticipation". Whenever I see someone drooling, or unfairly jumping all over someone, I can still hear that song. I never liked that song. I stopped liking ketchup for years because of that song.

Thanks for this book. I am understanding for the first time what motivates this impossible behavior. It's still ugly as sin, but I'm gleaning a bit of why, which I just never had before. Thanks.

This book in his series on narcissism identifies the key motivator for narcissistic exploits/exploitation in a way that is concrete and real. Also disturbing and scary.

Fuel is "spot on" with what narcissists do and why they act like they do. Written by a narcissist, it gives great insight as to why and what goes on in their devious minds. I found it so in tune with my own experiences. It's amazing how you know they are up to no good, but once you read why and what they are thinking, it's a real revelation. Thanks to the author for sharing his world.
Having been in a "relationship" (if there is such a thing with a narc) with a narcissist for 6 years I have to say this book is very enlightening and again it details situations very much like ones I had with my narcissistic boyfriend and now I know why he did the things he did and even more importantly what he gained from it. I had several "wow" moments while reading this Fuel and I found it extremely interesting. This is a must read if you have been involved with one of these individuals and you are the least bit curious what makes them tick or, even worse, how the negative emotions they evoked in you were giving them the most benefit! Our suffering is their best fuel! Read Fuel and don't be their fuel!

A book that should have been much better

Storaro always got the finest looking prints and lab work,
and his films are stunning ,But the reproductions in this book
look like as bad as the video for "1900",They are printed on
nice paper in a nice hardcover,but the source for these images
is pretty poor,
I would love to see what a 4000 line scanned capture from
the original source would look like printed the same way.
But that would mean getting Studios like Paramount involved,
Which might mean that the book never came out.Since they
can't even be trusted to release his best work on dvd.
It seems odd that Storaro who seems to demand such high Quality
from his labs,would Ok such poor reprints of his films.
Still with so many of his films unavailable on dvd,This Book
is still worth getting.

for any aspiring cameramen, this is a must have book, Storaro's work is both visually stunning and inspiring, and it is about time that a book celebrating the works of this great master of cinematography is made available.

In this erudite history of an idea, Peters, a professor of communication studies at the University of Iowa, writes with good form and style in a welcome break from the jargon-muddled work of many academics who tackle the notion of communication. Following Walter Benjamin, Peters approaches the writing of history not as a linear continuum but as a simultaneity, a wormhole. What Peters is after is communication, with all its "misfires, mismatches, and skewed effects." To this end, he is just as likely to reference Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke as he is to turn to Jesus or St. Augustine or Phaedrus or John Locke. The result is a cultural polylogue. Peters (Communication Studies/Univ. of Iowa) begins this delightful essay by observing that ``Only moderns could be facing each other and be worried about `communicating' as if they were thousands of miles apart.'' For Peters, the concept of communication has evolved in tandem with its technology, leaving us chasing a moving target rather than closing in on a fixed ideal. It appears unavoidable that human beings divide the world into ``me'' and ``not me'' in distinct ways, creating both the joy of a world populated by individual personalities and the frustration of an insuperable barrier to transfers of unmodified meaning from one person to another. Intensifying the quest for ``genuine'' communication, whether introspectively through therapy or socially through increasingly powerful forms of media, expands our expectations along with our capabilities and can produce a crisis of communication in the midst of an information age. Peters is excellent at finding novel ways to illustrate this continuing ``project of reconciling self and other.'' The range of options is presented through contrasting the interactive and selective approach of Socrates (dialogue) with the one-way and all-inclusive approach of Jesus (dissemination). The essential association of communication with existence emerges in consideration of spirits and spiritualism in everything from philosophy to sances. The scope of communicative ambition is underlined by consideration of attempts to interact with animals and aliens. In the end, Peters concludes that the fears of isolation, which have pushed us to pursue communication as the true meeting of minds, have too often overshadowed our appreciation of what is unique. Touch, the ability to come into direct contact with another being, and time, the expression of our mortality, are ``the two nonreproducible things we can share, our only guarantees of sincerity'' through which we can ``face the holiness and wretchedness of our finitude.'' Sweetness in finding the right one

I have read several books by Erika Reed overs the years and enjoy watching her grow as a writer. This new series is set against the backdrop of a Seattle night club. In addition to Gianna's friends, we also meet the owners and employees of the club. Enough insight is given to all of these characters to provide creative fodder for future books in the series. The first book in the series focuses on two of the four owners who are attracted to Gianna. Bryce and Dylan Nash are brothers who have known that they wanted to settle down with a woman they can sha re. When they meet Gianna, they set out to build a relationship with her as individuals and as a group. While they are both different personalities, Gianna is pulled towards both of them equally. Their patience allows her the chance to build confidence in their unique relationship, and that is what I loved the most about them. Their's is a story of the sweetness found in finding that right person. They never push her: they allow her to come to her own decisions. Gianna has always measured herself as less than her friends, but through their eyes, she blossoms into the beautiful woman she always has been capable. I'm interested to see where the next dance at Club Cravings takes us in book 2!

I loved this book cannot wait for the next in the series! This was the second book that I have read by this author and she really knows how to hook you in, I could not put it down. Bryce and Dylan definitely had me swooning. I liked how the relationship built and how we got to see how Gianna learn how to be in this type of a realtionship. I really hope the other characters get their owns stories because I fell in love with them.

About the Author
DALE DeGROFF has been called “the Billy Graham of the holy spirits” by the London Tribune and “a master” by Martha Stewart, and is widely acknowledged to be the preeminent mixologist in the world. He’s been featured in dozens of magazines and newspapers, including The New York Times, The New Yorker, GQ, Entertainment Weekly, Penthouse, Food & Wine, and Forbes; his television appearances include Martha Stewart Living and Today. For twelve years, Dale ran the bar at New York City’s Rainbow Room and now serves as a consultant for such top restaurants as Balthazar. He has taught at the Culinary Institute of America (and stars in their bartending video) and the Institute for Culinary Education, among other venues. Dale grew up in Westerly, Rhode Island, and now lives on Long Island.

You won't find a better indroduction to spirits

- Great looking book and great photography

- Detailed intro into all the main spirits

- Detailed info on bartending techniques and measurements

- Good intro into cocktail glasses

- Large number of recipes

- The author definately has command of the subject

- Lots of references of wher to buy items for your bar

Cons

- Inconsistant terminology. He uses different names for the same spirit in different pages of the book which leads to a bit of confusion

- No cross reference of recipes by main spirit. I wish the book would have broken down the recipes by main spirit. Recipes with vodka, recipes with tequila, and so on.

- Some spirits are undefined in the book. There are several recipes that have spirits that aren't defined anywhere on the book.

Great content poorly organized

Try to imagine your favorite cookbook with the recipes arranged in alphabetical order. Bad. Now imagine all of the recipes had fanciful titles not directly related to their ingredients or method of production and THEN they were arranged in alphabetical order. Worse. Now imagine the book had a halfhearted attempt at any index. (Yes, there are a few alternate drink names in the index, but no attempt to, for instance, list drinks by base spirit, let alone minor ingredients.) Well that is DeGroff's Craft of The Cocktail. If you buy it, you pretty much have to read it cover to cover for it to be of use. If you just use it as a reference you will find excellent recipes of familiar drinks but miss all of the original drinks. (You don't know their names. They are originals. How are you going to be led to them in an alphabetical book?) I don't disagree with any of the positive things that people said about this book. (I did tell you to imagine your FAVORITE cookbook destroyed by disorganization.) But this book is a real disappointment and a missed opportunity.

Great book - small critique

I agree with everyone else's praise for this book. It's definitely my "desert island" cocktail book. There are many bad cocktail books out there, there are a few good cocktail books, but this is the only "great" cocktail book.
My only gripe is the index is not thorough enough to look up drinks by ingredient. For instance, you can't look up Benedictine and find all drink recipes containing that ingredient.

It's Just What the Title Says!

This book is a very useful and informative. It does a very good job of covering what makes professional interior photography work. Definitely a book for advanced amateurs or professionals. Would be great for a professional who is expanding their scope of work to include interior photography or who is looking for techniques or useful ideas. Harris does a very good job of describing appropriate camera and lighting equipment, lighting techniques, color correction processes, etc. The book is pretty much up-to-date and covers digital photography reasonably well. It is a very "hands-on" book from someone who obviously knows what they are doing. I probably would not recommend this to "snapshot" photographers, you might not get too much out of it.

A great book!

Michael Harries does a great job on this book. In this book he recommends the view camera (instead of the typical 35mm). This book isn't really going to teach all aspects of how to use this camera or the equipment. However, there is pretty good coverage concerning lights and how to correct color with filters. He also gives a really good run down on what equipment to buy, composition, and different types of film.
If you want to learn a lot about architectural photography and its equipment, this is a really good book. If you want lots of specifics on view cameras, you'll need a different book.

Not the right book for you

This book is not good at anything in particular especially if you are doing or planning to do any kind of digital photography. It seems to me that the author is not a very good architectural photographer himself because most of the pictures you see in the book are terrible, even when used to ilustrate different points. When it comes to digital photography he speaks like he knows very little about what is possible to do today with a digital camera.

Not a source of inspiration or good complete information for anybody seriously getting into architectural photography.

First time I return a book to Amazon.
